10th July 1999…..Simon Davey, forced to retire prematurely due to a back injury, has accepted an offer for a coaching role at Deepdale, and will work with the club's youngsters.
9th July 1999…..Julian Darby has turned his back on Shrewsbury Town by accepting a new one year playing deal with North End, which will be combined with some coaching work at the club. He is likely to figure in the first team squad heavily in the new season, particularly with the new 5 substitute rule coming into force.
9th July 1999…..Out of contract Bristol City utility man Rob Edwards is training with North End, and seems likely to sign for the club on a free transfer within the next week. The Welsh international hails from Kendal, and seems very keen to move to Deepdale, despite firm interest from West Brom and Grimsby.
8th July 1999…..Preston supersub Jason Harris has signed for Hull City for £30,000 with a further £10,000 to follow based on appearances. Jason failed to make a big enough impression at Deepdale for David Moyes to consider him for the first team next season, despite saving us many times when coming off the bench last term.

23rd June 1999…..Everton left-back Adam Eaton today signed for North End for a "nominal fee". However, he is so highly rated at Goodison Park that it is believed The Toffees have inserted a substantial sell-on clause into the deal. Eaton played a major role in the Everton youth team's F.A. Youth Cup triumph in 1998. It remains to be seen whether he will prove to be a direct replacement for Dominic Ludden, who has been interesting Manchester City, but the 19 year old will almost certainly prove to be a useful signing, at a time when left footers are increasingly rare.
22nd June 1999…..It has been announced this afternoon that Nicky Forster has signed for Reading for £650,000. This comes despite the fact North End had expected to sign him this morning.

18th June 1999…..David Moyes has finally ended speculation surrounding his future at Deepdale by signing a new contract. The only details that have been released over the length of the deal however, is that it is for the "foreseeable" future.
