North End won their away day opening season game for 16 years on Saturday, beating Oldham 1-0 in a hard fought contest at Boundary Park.
Jon Macken was the hero, rounding Latics' keeper Gary Kelly for the winning goal after 65 minutes. Though the performance for the best part wasn't convincing, North End came out for the second half a much improved side from the first, and just about deserved the victory.
Rumours are still circulating concerning the signing of Everton striker Michael Branch, it seems that he will become a Preston player providing the tribunal due to settle the Steve Basham fee is seen as reasonable.
