Sean became North End's record signing in November 1996 when he joined from Darlington for £300,000, making an impressive debut in the 3-0 drubbing of Blackpool, a game that was shown live on Sky TV. Now club captain, he has an exceptionally influential presence on the field, is strong in the tackle and at times has an impressive passing range. Converted from a centre half to a midfielder by previous North End boss Gary Peters, it is widely tipped that Sean will make a return to the back next season, which many fans believe is his best position. In midfield, his lack of pace is regularly highlighted by his mistimed challenges, which resulted in him being booked far too many times last season. Nevertheless, his impressive all round play last season saw him selected in the PFA Second Division select XI, and a recent poll in FourFourTwo magazine named him as the third best player in the division. Unsurprisingly he has attracted interest from other clubs, most notably Everton, Aston Villa and Wolves. However, he seems happy at Deepdale - for now.
