As of start of  1999/00 season

Despite being the oldest player currently on North End's books, David Eyres is undoubtedly the most skilful. When on form, he is capable of turning defenders inside out, delivering inch-perfect crosses and chipping in with a fair few goals of his own.
A latecomer into league football, David was a regular scorer for Blackpool after joining them for £10,000 from Rhyl. He continued this impressive form at Burnley, helping them to the first division via the play-offs.
It came as a major shock when Chris Waddle sold him to North End for £80,000 in October 1997. Despite struggling to find his feet at Deepdale early on, he seems to have improved with every game, and although he suffers more with injuries than he once did, he played a crucial part in our push for promotion last season.
David's goalscoring prowess was underlined when he scored our best two goals of the campaign, a magnificent 40 yard chip over the Reading goalkeeper in our 4-0 victory at Deepdale, and a superb 25 yard shot that almost burst Wigan keeper Roy Carroll's net at Springfield Park.
His low point of the season came when he was sent off in North End's epic cup encounter with Arsenal, for a late challenge on Marc Overmars. He later said he felt he was to blame for the resulting 4-2 defeat, provoking a sackful of letters from fans in an  effort to reassure him he wasn't at fault. A likeable figure, it is tipped that he will move into coaching at Deepdale when his playing days are over.
